Butale Hails Botswana-Zambia Commitment to Sustainable Development

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Phenyo Butale has yesterday hailed Botswana and Zambia’s commitment to social development.

Butale was speaking on Thursday at the ongoing session of the ministerial meeting in Zambia of the inaugural ministerial conference on the bi-national commission between Botswana and Zambia. The conference is a result of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the two countries in March 2025.

According to Butale, the MoU led to the facilitation of bilateral cooperation in areas involving transport, investment, education, energy, and trade. Further, Minister Butale expressed that the two countries share a common history that is grounded on a shared ambition of sustainable development.

To this end, Butale reaffirmed Botswana’s commitment to the resolutions of the engagement. He added that the meeting will focus on touching the livelihood of its citizens.

He further noted that over ten years ago, Botswana and Zambia embarked on a landmark initiative to construct the Kazungula bridge, which led to the ease movement of people and people, thereby improving economic growth between the two countries. This heightened activity calls for a presentation of coordinated efforts to improve bilateral relations, he stated.
