Justice Ministry to establish More Specialised Courts

Staff Writer

The Ministry of Justice and Correctional Services will this year continue to set up specialised courts to expedite cases and improve accessibility of services for all.

This was said by the Chief Justice, Gaolapelwe Ketlogetswe, yesterday at the opening of the legal year.

Justice Ketlogetswe disclosed that a specialised commercial court will be established in the next few weeks. This will improve matters relating to justice around doing business, he said.

Ketlogetswe stated that the judicial system has been undergoing reforms, which include computerised records, judicial appointments at the apex courts, and a new High Court division in Mahalapye, among others.

He assured the nation that a specialised commercial court will help provide speedy justice that is impartial and easily accessible.

Furthermore, Ketlogetswe revealed that litigants will be allowed an impartial jury.

He noted that the new commercially specialised court is scheduled to start operations by the beginning of March this year.

He added that the envisaged court will deal exclusively with commercial cases. Thus, it is intended to help facilitate the government agenda of promoting the ease of doing business in the country, he said.

To this end, for its part, the Attorney General has appealed to the legal community to accept these transformative legal structures.
