Boko Calls for Adaptive Security Strategies Amid Rising Crime Threats

President Advocate Duma Boko has called on Botswana’s security forces to adopt practical and measurable strategies in executing their mandate amid growing global uncertainty, volatility and ambiguity.

Speaking yesterday morning at the opening of the 21st annual strategic conference of the Botswana Defence Force(BDF), President Boko urged the military to continuously review its operations and remain adaptive to emerging threats.

He emphasised the need for responsive and agile solutions, particularly in combating organised crime and cyber-related threats, which he described as increasingly sophisticated and difficult to contain.
“We ought to be consistently reflecting and reviewing our practices. We must anticipate and ensure that we remain eminently responsive to the new and unfolding future. Not only will we learn and adapt ourselves, but the terrorists will stay resilient in cyber crimes and organised criminal networks,” he said.

The President further stressed the importance of cost-effective innovation in strengthening national security capabilities, noting that the evolving nature of organised crime requires security institutions to remain proactive and technologically prepared.

On staff welfare, President Boko said the government remained committed to improving living conditions for members of the security forces. He revealed that the government is working to address accommodation shortages through the provision of more than 200 new housing units for staff members.
He also raised concern over the influx of armed individuals entering Botswana to commit criminal activities, warning that the country faces increasingly complex security challenges.

Despite these concerns, President Boko expressed confidence in the implementation of Botswana’s comprehensive national security strategy, saying it is designed to respond coherently to emerging threats while strengthening national resilience against anticipated security risks.
