The Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE) and Stanbic Bank Botswana have continued their commitment to empowering young people through financial literacy and investment education, describing the country’s youth as the foundation of Botswana’s future economic growth.
Speaking at the prize-giving ceremony of the schools’ investment competition held this week, Botswana Stock Exchange(BSE) Chief Executive Officer Aobakwe Monyatsi said the competition was about much more than recognising winners, but equipping learners with lifelong financial knowledge and practical skills.
Monyatsi said the BSE is committed to developing financially informed citizens as part of its broader mission to build vibrant, inclusive and accessible capital markets. He noted that exposing learners to investing, entrepreneurship, financial planning and wealth creation at an early age helps nurture the next generation of entrepreneurs, investors and business leaders who will drive Botswana’s economic transformation.
He further acknowledged the importance of partnerships, praising Stanbic Bank Botswana for working alongside the BSE to expand financial literacy initiatives and create opportunities that inspire ambition among young people.
Also addressing the gathering was the Stanbic Bank Botswana Head of Corporate Operations and Investment Banking, Morufhi Masikara, who congratulated all participants for their dedication and hard work throughout the competition.
Masikara encouraged the winning teams to celebrate their achievements, saying their success reflected teamwork, discipline and commitment. To participants who did not win, Mr. Masikara urged them not to be discouraged, emphasizing that the confidence, resilience, critical thinking and problem-solving skills gained during the competition would serve them well beyond the event.
Masikara said Botswana’s greatest asset is not its natural resources but its people, particularly young people with the courage to challenge conventional thinking and develop innovative solutions for the country’s future.
He said Stanbic Bank sees today’s learners as tomorrow’s entrepreneurs, economists, engineers, teachers and national leaders, adding that investing in young people remains one of the most meaningful investments any institution can make.
Masikara also commended the Botswana Stock Exchange for its continued efforts to improve financial literacy among young people, saying the partnership between the two organisations is helping equip learners with practical knowledge on investing, entrepreneurship and long-term wealth creation.
The schools’ investment competition forms part of ongoing efforts by the BSE and Stanbic Bank Botswana to promote financial education and prepare young Batswana to participate confidently in the country’s evolving economy.
